Time and Tide in New Delhi

Tasveer is delighted to present Karan Kapoor: Time & Tide in New Delhi at Bikaner House. Please join us for the opening reception on 21st September, 7pm onwards. The exhibition will remain on view until 29th September, 2017.

Curated by Nathaniel Gaskell, Time & Tide brings together two bodies of work made by Kapoor in the 1980s and 1990s, and focuses on people and places that have either been lost to history, or changed beyond recognition.

The first series, shot in the 1980s, presents a study of ageing Anglo-Indians, primarily from Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata), and forms one of Kapoor’s earliest personal photography projects. This idea of a world no longer present or fast fading also forms a central thread in Kapoor’s second series of photographs taken during his frequent visits to Goa, where he vacationed with his parents, Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal, and friends at their house on Baga Beach. Taken in the 1990s, these photographs capture an older Goa: the last of ‘Portuguese Goa’.

Time & Tide is accompanied by a new book, published by Tasveer, with reproductions of the photographs in the exhibition and original texts by William Dalrymple and Felicity Kendal. Pick up a copy at Bikaner House or shop online at the Tasveer Bookstore: bit.ly/2cNxyPm.
